I would like to take this opportunity to welcome our new and returning students to the Softball Academy for the 2011-2012 year. The coaches are very impressed with the wonderful group of girls enrolled this year, both old and new!
In addition to Kim Wright and Ron Clarke returning as our Head coaches, we are also pleased to introduce Marina Watson to the program. Marina is a former National Team player and sole owner of Prime Fitness. Marina has done some preliminary fitness testing with the girls to establish an individual base for each student. With the data collected in the series of tests, Marina will create both generic and individualized softball training programs that the girls can use during and outside of class time. We are thrilled to add Marina’s fitness expertise to the Seaquam Softball Academy.
As a coaching team we are hoping to instil accountability with our students. Kim has implemented a journal writing component to the course which will take place at the commencement of most classes. These journals will be read by the coaching staff and at times we will ask students to take the journals home for parent signatures. This will provide more communication among the players, coaches, and parents.
While most of the class sessions will take place at Seaquam Secondary, we are also looking to venture out to Sungod and Fitness World where the girls will participate in various cross-training activities. The calendar on the Softball Academy website will be updated monthly with information about the focus and location of each class.
Softball Academy clothing has been ordered; each student will receive two T-shirts, a hooded jacket, socks and pants for those that need them.
Our first impression of the girls this year has been a great one! We are all looking forward to the remainder of the year with these keen ladies. If you have any questions about the program details please don’t hesitate to contact me at aobee@deltasd.bc.ca
