Mission Statement:

At Hellings Elementary school, our focus is on students. Our challenge in assisting children to become life-long, responsible, independent learners is to: provide a safe, supportive and cooperative place of learning; celebrate our diversity and develop a climate of respect; encourage students to continuously strive for their personal best; teach an academically challenging curriculum.

History of School:

In September, 1970, Hellings Elementary was opened, named after a pioneer family, Mr. & Mrs. S. Hellings who had lived in this area. Hellings Elementary school was surrounded by woods. In 1970, the school had only four pods, all rooms were used as classrooms. Classes in the two grade sevens had 39 to 41 students each and the first grade four class had 39 students.

Mr. A. Backer, was the first principal and Mr. D. Neale was the first vice-principal.
