Aboriginal
The Aboriginal Educational Program assists Aboriginal students (Metis, First Nation, Inuit, "Indian", Status, Non Status, including any portion of ancestry) achieve greater success in school. We accomplish this by providing personnel. Aboriginal Support Workers along with Aboriginal community members, who are familiar with and sensitive to the value, beliefs and needs of the Aboriginal community from which the student comes. It is this cultural sensitivity and awareness that acts as a bridge between the two cultures, necessary in assisting Aboriginal students maintain academic success.

The Aboriginal Education Program provides:
Student Advocacy:Aboriginal Support Workers assist with classroom instruction, act as students's advocate and develop a support network.
Cultural awareness, Protocol, Traditional Values: Aboriginal Support Workers follow cultural protocol and provide guidance in the traditional values and teachings of our many nations.
Home/School Liaison:Aboriginal Support Workers liaise between school/personnel, parents/guardians and community agencies, connecting students with the aboriginal community.
One/One Counselling: (as necessary)
After School Programs which, depending on interest, include:
- Spring Break Camp
- Summer Camp
- Powwow Dancing
- Drumming and Singing
- Outdoor Survival Skills
The Aboriginal Education Program may vary somewhat from site to site as each school program is unique to the focus of the Aboriginal Support Worker. This program however does not replace Learning Assistance or any Special Education programs for which the student qualifies. The Delta School District's Aboriginal Education Program will provide interim tutorial support when needed.
