Physical Education
The aim of Physical Education is to provide opportunities for students to develop the knowledge, movement skills, and positive attitudes and behaviours that contribute to a healthy, active lifestyle. The goals of Physical Education are to have students:
• Participate regularly in a variety of physical activities
• Develop age-appropriate knowledge and skills for participating productively, safely and responsibly in a range of physical activities
• Develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes that enable them to attain and maintain a healthy active lifestyle
• Develop an understanding of the value of a healthy, active lifestyle
Key Components
The Physical Education curriculum is organized under the following topics:
• Active Living
• Movement Skills
• Safety, Fair Play, and Leadership
A balanced Physical Education program includes opportunities for students to participate in a variety of activities across the following five categories:
• Dance
• Games
• Gymnastics
• Individual and Dual Activities
• Alternative Environment Activities
Related Programs
Elementary Extra-Curricular Sports: Each year students in Grades 6 and 7 have the opportunity to participate on their school's Volleyball and Basketball teams that compete against neighbouring Delta schools during the Fall and Winter months. Students in Grades 4-7 can participate in Regional and District Track and Field teams in the Spring. All students who try out, regularly attend practices and follow the Player Fair Play Code play on the teams.
