Mathematics

The aim of the Mathematics program is to provide students with the opportunity to further their knowledge, skills and attitudes related to mathematics. Besides content, the curriculum focuses on developing positive attitudes towards mathematics, problem solving and estimating skills, mathematical reasoning and communication, and developing the ability to apply mathematical learning to real-life situations.

Key Components

The British Columbia Mathematics curriculum includes the same strands from kindergarten to grade 12:
  • Number
  • Patterns and Relations
  • Shape and Space (measurement, 3D objects, 2D shapes and transformations)
  • Statistics and Probability ( data analysis and chance and uncertainty)

Related Programs

MathStretch: a program for grades 5 - 7 students who have a passion for mathematics, exhibit a mathematical perception of the world and demonstrate persistence in solving mathematical problems. Students solve problems on line and connect with a mentor who discusses their work with them. Students also come together once a month to participate in mathematical activities with other students who love math.
