Key Components
Language Arts curriculum at both Elementary and Secondary levels includes the following areas of instruction:
- Oral Language (Speaking and Listening)
- Reading and Viewing
- Writing and Representing
Within each of these three curriculum organizers (Oral Language, Reading & Viewing, Writing & Representing) there is focus on the purposes, strategies, thinking, features that are appropriate for learners at the grade level. Clear, specific learning outcomes guide assessment and teaching; they are shared with students and parents to enable all to have common understanding of achievement expectations.
Related Programs
A major initiative in the Delta School District is implementation of a literacy coaching model within each school to coordinate assessment and instructional practices across grades and subject-matter content. Teachers work collaboratively in attempting to enhance their literacy programming and to promote success for all learners.
