Program Description
NEW for September 2012! Go to APPLY NOW on the right of this page to download an application form.
Today’s youth are bombarded with the message that the future of their earth is in trouble. The Sustainable Earth Academy will inspire hope and empower Delta District students by giving them the ideas, strategies and tools needed to become active change agents. Learning will extend beyond the classroom in this inspiring new academy! Delta and the Lower Mainland offer numerous locations for students to engage in action projects and demonstrate leadership skills while they “walk the talk.”
Bruce Ford, Metro Vancouver’s Sustainable Education Coordinator, will be an instructor in this academy alongside Sandra Adamson, a South Delta Secondary teacher with a passion for sustainability.
The Sustainable Earth Academy, open to all Delta students in grades 10 -12, will be a two-block program offered every other afternoon at South Delta Secondary. The Academy will be Delta’s first academic academy. Students will receive credit for Sustainable Resources 11, a Science 11 credited course, and either Sustainable Resources 12 or an Independent Directed Study, depending on personal project preferences.
