    Ian Gallagher

    Director of Player Development

    Ian is the Strength and Conditioning Coach for the 2007 Memorial Cup Champion Vancouver Giants. Prior to his role with the South Delta Hockey Academy, Ian graduated from the University of Alberta with a Bachelor of Education and went on to teach in the Edmonton Public School District for 15 years. As the Director of Player Development for the hockey academy, Ian's expertise and appreciation for player development both on and off the ice encourages students to reach their full potential and succeed both academically and athetically.

  • Don Hay

    Don Hay

    On-ice Coach

    Don Hay is the Head Coach of the 2007 Memorial Cup Champion Vancouver Giants. Don lends his expertise to the South Delta Hockey Academy as an on-ice coach, providing professional instruction to students on an individual and team basis. Don was an NHL Head Coach for the Calgary Flames and Phoenix Coyotees. He is a three time Memorial Cup Head Coach and one time World Junior Head Coach.

    Leland is the the Head Coach of the Vancouver Canadians (Major Midget) and Coach of the U16 & U17 High Performance Program. Leland has a Diploma in Sports Science and is also a Scout for the WHL Seattle Thunderbirds.

  • Paul Fricker

    Paul Fricker

    Goaltending Coach

    Paul brings to the academy over 30 years experience as a goalie coach and is the new Goalie Coach for the Vancouver Giants. He was drafted by the Hartford Whalers in the 9th round, 176th overall in the 1980 NHL Draft but never played in the NHL. He played for the University of Michigan after a junior hockey career with the Richmond Sockeyes, Vancouver Jr Canucks and Victoria Cougars.

    Quantum Speed

    Quantum Speed is a “training to skate system” for motivated hockey players based on the study of biomechanics, the science of physics and the love of athlete and sport development. Steffany Hanlen, an NHL Skating and Olympic Performance Coach, is the brainchild behind this results oriented, systemized, player-centric training system. Steffany worked with the NHL’s Edmonton Oilers as Skating and Conditioning Coach for a decade in the 1990’s and was also the skating coach for the WHL’s Edmonton Ice (now the Kootney Ice).
