Fall 2011 Newsletter

Welcome parents and players to the Sands Baseball Academy!  We are very pleased to have eleven new players join us this year.  As coaches, we are looking forward to working with the new students and those returning.  In talking to the returning players, they seem positive about their summer baseball accomplishments.

Our first month has been great!  We have had good weather and the boys seem focused and ready to learn!  We have spent many hours on conditioning, hitting, ground balls, fly balls, and cut-offs.

We will try to run the program out on the fields of Mackie Park and the Turf area as much as possible.  However, if the weather is inclement, we will be using school facilities (Gym, Cafeteria).  Starting in November all our Monday or Tuesday classes will be held at Sungod Recreation Centre.  We will use the Sungod gym for baseball skill work and will incorporate Spin classes for some variety to our conditioning program.  We will continue to use Sungod until March.  The boys will be expected to jog from Sands School to Sungod. We are making arrangements for a nutritionist to speak to the group regarding the importance of a good diet.

The Coaches would like to remind the players that it is imperative they come to the park prepared to work hard each day.  A good work ethic is mandatory if the players expect to improve their skills throughout the coming year.  Students have been given work out activities to practice at home; parents we hope you see this routine happening at home.

Players are required to wear their uniforms each class and also expected to bring their equipment every day. Please be sure all equipment is labeled with your child’s name.

We would like to wish the best of luck to one of our Grade 11 boys, Brad Antchak, who will be attending a Showcase Tournament in Arizona with the Langley Blades.

Parents, you are welcome to attend any of the sessions. Please see our calendar is on the Baseball  Academy website.
