Delta School District Superintendent Seconded to Ministry of Education, District Announces New Leadership

The Delta School Board is pleased to share the announcement of Superintendent Dianne Turner's new appointment of Chief Educator, Ministry of Education.

Over the last eight years, Turner has stewarded the district as both Assistant Superintendent (2008-2010) and Superintendent (2010-2016). She has been a fierce advocate for learner success and innovative teaching, both in Delta and as an education leader across the country. 

With the Ministry of Education, the Chief Educator provides international knowledge, expertise, and best practices to ensure BC student outcomes remain among the best in the world.~In addition the Chief Educator role will provide expertise and guidance to senior leaders and promote effective and efficient business practices required for a world-class education system.

Along with the news of Turner's new role, the Board announced the appointment of Doug Sheppard as the new Superintendent of the Delta School District and Brad Bauman to the position of Assistant Superintendent of the Delta School District. 

Sheppard has been one of two Assistant Superintendents for the Delta School District for the last six years, and has been an educator for the past 26 years — holding a wide range of senior educational roles in school districts across Metro Vancouver and at various levels of the K-12 system.

For the last two years, Bauman has been Delta School District's Director of Learning Services in Special Programs. Over his 26 years in Education, he has worked at both the Elementary and Secondary level in a variety of roles including: Vice-Principal, Principal, District Principal and Director.

“The Delta Board of Education is committed to our District's Bold Vision and our succession planning has been designed to keeps us on track,” says Laura Dixon, Delta School Board Chairperson. “We are truly fortunate in Delta to have such strong educational leadership in our Superintendent team. And we are so pleased for Dianne. She will be a tremendous asset to the Ministry of Education.”

Turner will officially be joining the Ministry of Education in August.
