Seaquam students travel to Japan

April 29, 2014

In November 2013, 23 students along with teachers Toby Mundy and Wendy Yamazaki from Seaquam Secondary travelled to Shimodate Dai-Ichi High School in Chikusei, Japan. Their travel was part of a cultural and educational exchange between the two secondary schools. Following the travel of the Seaquam students to Japan, the Japanese students travelled to Delta and were hosted here by our community.

At the Delta school board public meeting on April 22, 2014, the Seaquam students explained how impactful the trip was, not only educationally but also personally. The students described the transformative influence the trip had on them - opening their eyes to international friendship, understanding and opportunity. Every single student who took part in the exchange said it was an incredibly valuable experience.

As part of the presentation to the Delta Board of Education on April 22nd, Mr. Mundy also introduced Deputy Consul General Akira Uchida from the Japanese Consulate in Vancouver. Mr. Uchida spoke about the importance of building bonds between the young people of Canada and Japan.

Seaquam Secondary is hoping to continue and grow its relationship with Shimodate Dai-Ichi High School in the future.
