Delta School District's ‘Voice Your Vision’ contest a huge success

From captivating prose, to beautiful artwork and creative video production, Delta students expressed themselves in a myriad of ways as part of the ‘Voice Your Vision’ contest. The contest was launched in all of the 31 schools in the Delta School District back in September.

The goals was to give students a platform to express how they believe the new District ‘vision’ is, or can, come alive in their schools.

The outpouring of passion for Delta's schools was truly heartwarming and inspiring.

Students described the various things happening in their schools that encapsulate the vision of being: A leading district for innovative teaching and learner success. They also portrayed examples of the District mission: To enable all learners to succeed and contribute their full potential to the future. The District values of Caring, Respect, Responsibility, Community, and Excellence were also expressed.

The ideas, viewpoints, and reflections offer insight into various aspects of school life. Many students described technological initiatives being embraced to enhance learning. Others conveyed the importance of social responsibility, environmental plans and anti-bullying actions undertaken at their schools.

The significance of giving students a voice and providing them different ways to succeed was also an important theme that emerged.

Overall, 173 entries were submitted to the Voice Your Vision contest. Of these, many had multiple students working together, so it is estimated that roughly 300 students took part in the contest.

More than 8,149 online votes were cast, and there were nearly 40,000 entry views. It is wonderful to know so many people were engaged with listening to student voices.

The contest has now been narrowed down to the finalists, which can be viewed on the contest website: www.voiceyourvision.ca.

On Feb. 2 an awards show will take place where the winners will be announced. However, in this contest, everyone involved has certainly come out on top.
