Lifelong Learning Is Year-Round Learning In Delta
Over 2,500 Students Take Part in Delta Summer 2011 Programs

Summer used to be a time when polished school hallways and empty gyms waited in silence for students to return after Labour Day. With more than 2,500 youth and adult students enrolled in courses operated by Delta School District’s Continuing Education branch during Summer 2011, it is clear that learning now continues in Delta through every season.

Academic programs, including 6-week full-credit secondary school courses, academic remedial courses, and English language upgrading, attracted over 1,700 students in Summer 2011
.

In addition, nearly 800 students took part in "Summer Quest 2011" Youth Activities camps for ages 5 through 17 this July and August.

"A student could carve a piece of soapstone, improve their math skills, or learn to play a guitar, and still have options to do much more," says Youth Activities Coordinator, Ron McNeill.

Reflecting the diversity of interests shown by Delta children, the best-attended camps this summer dealt with study skills, cooking, babysitting, soapstone carving, web design, cartooning, French, and writing skills.

"It is more than the expertise that our instructors bring to the camps that impresses me," says McNeill. "It is their enthusiasm that translates into a positive experience for the campers."

Delta Continuing Education demonstrates its commitment to supporting the life-long learning needs of our community through its wide range of educational opportunities for all ages. Over 10,000 registrants took part in programs in the past school year, including high school completion, English language training, youth activities, workplace training, languages, and a wide range of personal development courses.
