Delta Teaching Assistant Program Graduates Honoured
48 Adult Graduates Prepared to Work With Special Need Students

A ceremony held on June 7 at Genesis Theatre celebrated the graduation of 48 adult students from the Delta School District’s Teaching Assistant Certificate program.   Delta Teaching Assistant Certificate (DTAC) Program graduates complete over 400 hours of classroom instruction and practicum experience as they prepare to work as education assistants in K-12 schools, providing support to students with special physical, behavioural, or learning needs. The 2011 graduates and guests were offered congratulations by student representatives, Kim Dailly, Darcie Gilliat, and Helen Segouin, as well as District Principal of Special Programs, Paul Kerslake.   Since DTAC’s inception in 2000, Delta School District has regularly modified the program to respond to the feedback of employers, teachers, and graduates, incorporating practical, sought-after skills and up-to-date information into the curriculum.  In recent years, DTAC has been among the first such programs to incorporate mandatory completion of the POPARD Autism Spectrum Disorders certificate and to introduce course material on anxiety/ resilience in children and shop safety. Congratulations to this year’s graduates!  For more information about the DTAC program, please visit:
