After breakout campaign with the Vancouver Giants, SDSS Hockey Academy graduate and South Delta Minor Hockey graduate Brendan Gallagher was selected in the fifth round by the Montreal Canadians in last weekend's NHL Entry Draft.That means Gallagher will be heading to Montreal on Friday to attend a three-day rookie camp, with another trip east for the Canadians main camp likely in September.The 18-year-old from Tsawwassen says, "It's a good thing I got drafted before round five because I wasn't going to be home for the final two

A Valedictory Programme on June 17 celebrated the secondary school graduation of 17 adult students from Delta School District’s Continuing Education branch, just some of the adults who completed their diploma requirements in Delta this past year.Following diploma presentations by District Vice-Principal Alyson Caouette, Deputy Superintendent Garnet Ayres, and School Board Trustee Gordon Masi, Academic Achievement Awards were presented to Alba Hernandez, Vincent Yao, and Marissa Zagorsek.

Brendan Gallagher invited to junior team summer camp

Rising hockey star Brendan Gallagher's performance with the Vancouver Giants has resulted in getting the attention of Hockey Canada.Gallager finished with 81 points, including 41 goals, this past season in the Western Hockey League. The The recently turned 18-year-old from Tsawwassen is among 41 skaters invited to this summer's National Junior Team Development Camp in St. John's Newfoundland.Gallagher is one of 24 forwards to be identified and is among 18 WHL players who will be headed to the Maritimes.Read the full story here.
