Delta Life Skills and Autism Intervention Programs Receive Positive Feedback From Participants

The Life Skills and Autism Intervention Programs, operated by Delta School District’s Continuing Education branch, recently distributed a satisfaction survey to gather feedback from the adults and families receiving their services, and the results are very positive.

“The time taken by both adults and families is greatly appreciated,” says Program Coordinator, Marilyn Neufeld.  “Such feedback aids in planning for persons served, in advocating for services for people with disabilities and ensuring programs are meeting the needs of the adults, children, and families receiving services.”

Delta Continuing Education is funded by the Ministry of Children & Family Development and Community Living BC to provide skilled staff to work one-to-one and in group settings with special needs children and adults. Life skills staff support the individual goals of participants related to the development of community awareness and recreation skills, social skills, and life skills. Delta Continuing Education also provides Behaviour Interventionists to work with children diagnosed with ASD by contracting directly with families who wish to use their Autism funding.

“We learned that adults and families are very happy with the services but that the goal setting and reporting process needs to be better understood,” says Neufeld.  “The strengths of this Delta program are that children and adults are benefiting from this service and the program has quality staff that provide an effective service.”

Among the highlights of responses from families of adults or children participating in Life Skills or Autism Intervention Programs include 100% agreement on each of these statements:

Staff have skills/experience to effectively support person
Person served is benefiting from service
Satisfied with the program
Would recommend program to others

“This service has been very beneficial for our daughter,” wrote one of the responding parents, “and also has given her confidence to be out learning with her worker who is very talented in combining learning skills and enjoying one another’s company.”
Similarly, the adults participating in the Life Skills Program indicated 100% agreement on each of these statements:

Feel safe with staff
Satisfied with the program
Would recommend program to others

Written responses also gave participants and families the opportunity to offer valuable suggestions to improve services.
