DELTA SCHOOL DISTRICT LAUNCHES FILM ACTING ACADEMY
DELTA, BC – The Delta School District is pleased to announce the launch of a new Film Acting Academy, arriving at South Delta Secondary School this Fall. The Academy, which is geared towards students in grades 8-12 is in association with Tarlington Training and is open to Delta students as well as out of district students.
The Academy will focus on four areas of study; Film Acting, Acting Theory, Voice and Movement and feature workshops and field trips oriented towards finding an agent, getting a visa and various studio visits. With a reputation for sold out theatre performances such as Grease and Taming of the Shrew, the launch of the Film Acting Academy will compliment the exemplary Fine Arts department South Delta Secondary already offers.
“Vancouver is the third largest producer of film in North America,” says South Delta Secondary’s drama teacher Paige Hansen. “I think it’s important to offer a program that the kids are really interested in. It’s exciting to teach students something they are passionate about while recognizing they have every opportunity to succeed in this industry.”
Guest speakers will be brought in to talk about working in the industry and local talent such as Richard Cox, Desiree Kleemann and Tracey Neff will also lend their expertise to Academy students.
"I am very excited that district academies are branching into the Fine Arts realm, says Teresa Phillips, District Vice Principal of Academy Programs. “This Academy will provide a unique opportunity for students with a passion for acting within the film and television industry while catering to the needs of students with different learning styles."
Film Acting marks the 6th Academy program offered in the Delta School District with additional academies in the works for the 2011/12 school year.
