Many Adults In Delta Cannot Read This

Many adults in our community, new Canadians as well as some who were born in Canada, cannot read this website article. Delta School District's Continuing Education branch continues to offer a range of courses to improve basic reading and writing skills for adults, with free tuition, convenient scheduling options, and new classes beginning again in early December.

Lifelong Learning Is Year-Round Learning In Delta

Summer used to be a time when polished school hallways and empty gyms waited in silence for students to return after Labour Day. With more than 2,500 youth and adult students enrolled in courses operated by Delta School District’s Continuing Education branch during Summer 2011, it is clear that learning now continues in Delta through every season. Academic programs, including 6-week full-credit secondary school courses, academic remedial courses, and English language upgrading, attracted over 1,700 students in Summer 2011.

Congratulations to the 2011 Graduates of the Delta Early Childhood Education Program

At a graduation ceremony in Richmond this June, 41 adult students celebrated the completion of their 2-year Delta Early Childhood Education certificate program. At the event, representatives Kristin Campbell and Gigi Prudente addressed the audience on behalf of their fellow students, while Feyona Hong was awarded the certificate of "Top Academic Standing" for maintaining top marks, an average of 98.6%, in her graduating class. Through 980 hours of classroom and practicum training, the E.C.E.

Delta Teaching Assistant Program Graduates Honoured

A ceremony held on June 7 at Genesis Theatre celebrated the graduation of 48 adult students from the Delta School District’s Teaching Assistant Certificate program.   Delta Teaching Assistant Certificate (DTAC) Program graduates complete over 400 hours of classroom instruction and practicum experience as they prepare to work as education assistants in K-12 schools, providing support to students with special physical, behavioural, or learning needs.

Continuing Education’s SPRING 2011 Catalogue Released

Delview Adult Learning Centre Holds Open House On September 8

A Valedictory Programme on June 17 celebrated the secondary school graduation of 17 adult students from Delta School District’s Continuing Education branch, just some of the adults who completed their diploma requirements in Delta this past year.Following diploma presentations by District Vice-Principal Alyson Caouette, Deputy Superintendent Garnet Ayres, and School Board Trustee Gordon Masi, Academic Achievement Awards were presented to Alba Hernandez, Vincent Yao, and Marissa Zagorsek.

Delta Life Skills and Autism Intervention Programs Receive Positive Feedback From Participants

The Life Skills and Autism Intervention Programs, operated by Delta School District’s Continuing Education branch, recently distributed a satisfaction survey to gather feedback from the adults and families receiving their services, and the results are very positive.  “The time taken by both adults and families is greatly appreciated,” says Program Coordinator, Marilyn Neufeld.
