Delta Breaks New Ground in Opening of First Traditional School

Delta Breaks New Ground in Opening of First Traditional School

The Delta School District is pleased to announce the opening of Pebble Hill Elementary School as a Traditional School starting September 2008.

The idea of a traditional school was first suggested by trustees in response to comments and input received by the public. Through a diligent process of site visits, surveys and meetings within the community, which began in the fall of 2007, the response to pursue the proposed change to the school was overwhelmingly endorsed.

At Gibson Elementary, we believe that our library is the core of the school community. To jump-start the year our Teacher Librarian, Roberta MacQuarrie, has restructured the library to create a motivating environment to support students' literacy. Our library is an inviting space in which students feel connected, safe and cared for.
Continuing Education Features Choices for Every Learner

During the 2007/2008 school year, over 10,000 people registered for courses offered by Delta School District’s Continuing Education branch and though many of those courses were taught in the setting people traditionally associate with Continuing Education – weekday evenings in a nearby secondary school classroom – many others were held in the day, during the summer, and even on-line.

Fall marks the time of falling leaves, cooler weather and, of
course, the start of another school year. If you are a parent of a
school-aged child with special needs, fall is also the time your
child's school develops an Individual Education Plan (IEP) to support
your child's education.

To help inform and empower families in this process, the Reach Child
and Youth Development Society is hosting a free workshop for parents
with children in grades 1 to 12 to demystify the IEP.

Gray Elementary: Accepting our Social Responsibility

Developing socially responsible students has always been a large part of our students' development here at Gray. For a number of years we have been incorporating the Virtues Project Framework. The purpose of The Virtues Project is to help develop a culture of character where respect, patience, self-discipline, tolerance and joy for learning are among the virtues children master. Each month a virtue is selected and then reinforced to the students through daily P.A. announcements, classroom lessons, classroom visits by the principal, etc

October 23, 2008 is International AAC Awareness Day

AAC stands for "Augmentative and Alternative Communication"

Many people, both young and old, do not have the ability to speak and must rely on alternative ways of communicating with others. They might learn to use sign language, or even just body language! But there are many other kinds of communication systems available.

On Friday October 10th, close to 500 colourful wooden fish were hung on the school's chain-link fence as part of "Stream of Dreams", a project that combines environmental education and community art to spread the word about environmental stewardship. The installation of the fish mural was the culminating activity of a week long project during which the students of École South Park School and Boundary Beach Elementary learned about where their water comes from and where it goes.
