The Delta School District is currently accepting applications for:

COMP. #10-534T - Education Assistant - Instructional - Temporary Position

DESCRIPTION: Resource Room (Work Readiness)

LOCATION:  North Delta Secondary

HOURS:  12 hours per week ,10 months per year (To terminate no later than April 30, 2010)

SALARY:  $23.37 per hour

START DATE:  As Soon As Possible

DUTIES:

Assists the teacher in the planning, development, modification, preparation, and implementation of curriculum, classroom materials and schedules to meet the needs of designated student(s).  The major responsibility in this position will be working with students who have moderate cognitive impairments and significant behavioural challenges at the secondary school level.

Responsibilities may include:  Please review instructional duties at all district sites.  Assisting in implementation of behaviour management programs.  Assisting in implementation of modified curricula materials for students.  Transporting students into community for vocational, recreational, or other community based experience (may involve use of own vehicle).  Implementing or assisting with travel training program (may involve use of own vehicle).  Implementing and/or assisting with supported work programs in school and community settings.  Assisting in obtaining work contract for on-campus or community-based vocational experiences.  Performing duties in support of integration and mainstreaming regular classrooms as directed by special education, regular or itinerant education teacher.    Performs other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Please review instructional qualifications at all district sites.  Vehicle required - insured for "to and from work."  Knowledge of, and proficiency in, implementation of behaviour management procedures.  Knowledge of learning characteristics of children with cognitive impairments.  Training in conflict resolution skills.  Recent demonstrated ability in working with students who have moderate cognitive impairments and significant behavioural challenges at the secondary school level.
