Multicultural Workers/Services

Multicultural workers help families, students and schools to communicate with one another by helping to address or bridge communication barriers that can arise from linguistic or cultural differences. Multicultural Workers can:

  • provide interpretation services in formal and informal meetings in Punjabi, Hindi, Cantonese and Mandarin.
  • provide cultural interpretation services by helping students and families to understand school and classroom expectations and responsibilities. In a similar way, Multicultural Workers can also help schools and classrooms to better understand the specific cultural perspectives that families and students may have as newcomers, immigrants or as members as minority cultural backgrounds.
  • Work with students—particularly in Secondary schools—to provide them with leadership and mentoring opportunities and provide advocacy supports as needed.
